What should I expect from my first visit?

You can expect to be at the clinic from 45-60 minutes for your first visit. Each initial evaluation starts in one of our private treatment rooms where your therapist will interview you regarding the nature of your injury and perform a comprehensive evaluation. Before you leave, you and your therapist will discuss your treatment plan so you have a clear understanding of your condition. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment to complete your initial paperwork and discuss insurance and billing questions. You have the option to download your new patient paperwork and bring the forms with you to your first visit or fax them to (303) 867-2082.

What should I bring?

If you are using insurance to pay for your physical therapy treatment, it is important that you bring your insurance card that was provided to you by your health insurance carrier. We also ask that you provide a valid driver’s license or photo ID. Please also bring any prescription for physical therapy or images (MRI, CT, EMG, etc.) your referring physician may have given you regarding your condition.

What should I wear?

We recommend you wear loose, comfortable clothing that will allow you unrestricted motion of all your joints and access to injured areas. Comfortable, closed toe shoes are also recommended.

Who will be involved in my treatment?

A licensed physical therapist will evaluate your condition and recommend a customized plan of care. Your follow up visits are always directed by your therapist and may or may not include the assistance of a massage therapist, pilates instructor, and/or physical therapy assistant.

Will I see the same person each visit?

Although every clinician at Vernon Physical Therapy is highly trained, our policy is to have you schedule with the same therapist for each visit when possible.

How long will my regular physical therapy visits last?

Every injury requires a different amount of treatment and recovery time. For the average patient, you can expect your regular appointments to last between 30-60 minutes.

How often do I need physical therapy?

Most patients will need physical therapy treatment 2-3 times per week in order to maximize recovery. Frequency of treatment varies depending on your condition and severity.

Will my insurance cover physical therapy?

Most health insurance packages offer physical therapy benefits. Although we strongly encourage every patient to confirm their own benefits, we will also verify them for you prior to your initial appointment. Do I need a doctor’s referral in order for my insurance to pay for physical therapy?

Some common insurance companies no longer require you to have a referral from a doctor prior to seeing a physical therapist. Our front office staff can take some basic information from you and verify your benefits for you. Have your insurance information ready and call (303) 867-2080. 

Do I need insurance to see a physical therapist?

No. Colorado is considered a “Direct Access” state. This means you have the right schedule an appointment with your physical therapist of choice without a physician’s referral. The decision of who to seek physical therapy treatment from is completely up to you, the patient.

Some physicians employ physical therapists or own physical therapy clinics, of which they benefit financially from their referrals. This can lead to excess and unnecessary visits. Although the Colorado Physical Therapy Practice Act prohibits physical therapists from working for any other professional aside from another physical therapist, there are still physician owned physical therapists (POPTs). Vernon Physical Therapy & Wellness is owned and operated by Kevin Vernon, DPT.

Can I pay cash for my visit?

Although most health insurance packages cover our services, you may elect to pay with cash. See our price list.
